Abromavich, Master of the Seas With Largest Yacht

Roman Abromavich is a Russian billionaire and, as the principle owner of private investment company Millhouse LLC, is also one of the world's richest men. He has lost billions of dollars in the financial crisis; his net worth has declined from $23.5 billion to $3 billion, but this has not stopped him from continuing the construction of the world's largest yacht.

Over the past year the global economic situation has halved the number of billionaires in Russia bringing the number down to 49 and making Abromavich a member of an increasingly rare breed. Nevertheless, he patiently awaits delivery of the largest yacht in the world, which is currently under construction in Hamburg, Germany, and is due for completion in 2010.

The owner of the yacht currently deemed the largest in the world is Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, the Emir of Dubai. This super yacht measures 531 feet in length and is named "The Dubai" and cost a cool $350 million. The Dubai has eight decks and can accommodate a whopping 115 people, including a crew of 88! Some of the other features include a swimming pool, Jacuzzis and a helipad, as well as saloons and VIP suites.

Abramovich's new yacht will be called the Eclipse, and at around 555 feet, will be longer than the Dubai. Innovative features include a cinema, submarine dock (with a submarine able to dive to a depth of 160 feet), and two helicopter platforms. The cabins will be able to cater for 24 guests.

The most interesting features of the aspiring world's largest yacht are its security capabilities. The yacht comes equipped with bullet proof windows, a submarine in case a speedy escape is required and a radar system designed to signal when a missile is fired at the yacht.

As the largest privately owned yacht in the world, The Eclipse will require a crew of at least 50 in order to be fully functional. This is a tremendous cost, and may prove a bigger burden than previously imagined because of the huge loss in net worth the Russian billionaire suffered between 2008 and 2009
to date.

Abromavich's Eclipse will set a new standard in yacht building, which can only be good for the industry. And when the world economy gets back on track it's almost certain that there will be a few challengers to his thrown. The Worlds Biggest Cruise Ships

Over the years a number of cruise lines have battled it out for the right to claim ownership of the biggest cruise ship in the world. A prime example of this is between Carnival and Royal Caribbean.

The Miami based cruise operator Carnival, owner of P&O Princess and Cunard was competing against its rival Royal Caribbean and had taken just delivery of the hundred and fifty ton Queen Mary 2 in 2003 whilst Royal Caribbean were planning to launch a one hundred and sixty ton cruiser the Ultra-Voyager, which left Carnival planning an even larger vessel.

Today the Queen Mary 2 accommodates 2,620 passengers and crosses the Atlantic from Southampton to Florida or New York in just six days, whilst the Freedom of the Seas (Ultra-Voyager) is registered in the Bahamas and sails seven day cruises from Miami to the Caribbean and back via Mexico, Cayman Islands, Jamaica and Haiti.

It appears that there is no stopping Royal Caribbean, with the current largest cruise ship, the Independence Of The Seas, docked in Southampton, which is also sister ship to the others holding the title, Liberty of the Seas and Freedom of the Seas.

This ship drew comparisons with the Titanic when she first docked in Southampton although she is in fact two hundred and thirty feet longer. The Independence Of The Seas a couple of thousand seats in the dining room, a choice of nine restaurants, a surf simulator, nine hole mini golf course, cinema, chapel, casinos, an ice rink and fifteen decks housing the cabins.

On-board shops allow you to buy souvenirs of all sorts including cosmetics, perfumes, clothing, jewelery and watches, or you can visit a make up artist, watch a seminar, view art collections or visit an auction.

However it looks like having the title of the biggest cruise liner in the world is not enough for Royal Caribbean and they still have the need to be even bigger, as they will be launching the Oasis of the Seas in 2009, a two thousand and twenty five ton cruise ship. It will be two thirds bigger than it's sister ships and will almost dwarf the Queen Mary 2.

The Oasis of the Seas will be different from any other cruise ship around, with seven different neighborhoods as well as an Aqua Theater. Perhaps this will be sufficient to cement their position at the top, but then there are always bigger plans in the pipeline, and it should always be remembered that bigger is not always best, especially considering that the whole experience is based upon providing you as the traveler with everything you need, including facilities, entertainment and comfort.

Enchantment of the Seas

Enchantment of the Seas is a large ship in Royal Caribbean's Vision Class. For those who don't know, classes are how Royal Caribbean categorizes their ships. Other Vision Class ships include Legend, Splendour, Grandeur, Rhapsody, and Vision.

Making its first voyage on July 13th, 1997, this ship has plenty of amenities. You can enjoy time in three pools, spas, bars, or dining areas. You can go to a theater, a solarium, a fitness center, a shopping center, various clubs, a rock climbing wall, four bungee trampolines, and the Viking Crown Lounge, a beautiful 360 degree deck on the top of the ship.

All in all, there is 11 decks, with the top one being the Viking Crown Lounge.

On the 10th deck, you can find a rock climbing wall and a bungee trampoline jump facility. The day spa and fitness center is also on the 10th deck. There is also a teen center and a jogging track.

One of the most popular decks on the ship, the 9th deck features the popular Windjammer Café and the pools - a great spot for rest and relaxation. You can also find a very beautiful solarium and pool here. The solarium is gorgeous.

You'll find rooms and various other things like a casino, clubs, lounges, a theatre, a Centrum, and more as you keep descending down the ship.

The ship has a capacity of 2,446 passengers. It weighs over 80,000 tons! It is greater than 300 yards long, 990 feet, to be exact. This ship can get up to speeds of 22 knots, or just over 25 miles per hour.

There are 4 different types of rooms. You have the basic Interior room, the cheapest rooms, but still with a nice charm. You can get an outside room, which is basically just Interior but with a window. You could get a room with a Balcony, a great way to take in the site in the early morning. And finally, you can relax in a luxurious multi room suite. Every room offers a television, telephone, private bathroom, shower, and hair-dryer.

In conclusion, Enchantment of the Seas is a fairly large ship with lots to do onboard. For 2009, this ship runs cruises to the Caribbean, for anywhere from 4 nights to 8 nights and $249 to $2,499 per person.

I had the best time especially having dinner at three different and nice restaurants. The staff are nice and the food we got were also discounted because of the coupons we were able to get before we went for the cruise.

I strongly recommend the Disney Cruise Line for those who are looking for quality time with their family. Cruising with Disney means a lot of activities for each member of the family and great discounts on different shows, restaurants, and in the spa. Your money will be well spent if you cruise with Disney. Great deals and discounts are always guaranteed.
